Cherry Angioma Laser Removal
Understandably, people want to remove any spots on their faces that make them feel insecure. From acne scars to moles, fortunately, there are cosmetic procedures that can help improve skin appearance. For those battling with skin issues like red skin moles or cherry angiomas, there’s a simple once-off laser treatment that can remove them.
Cherry angiomas don’t have to be a source of concern and embarrassment for anyone. With safe, effective cherry angioma laser removal, you can clear your face and body of these red spots.
Cherry Angiomas: What Are They?
Also known as Campbell de Morgan spots or senile angiomas, cherry angiomas are red moles that can develop on most areas of the body. Their reddish appearance is due to the collection of small blood vessels inside them. These spots are usually found in people aged 30 and older.
Cherry angiomas are often bright red, oval or circular in shape, and small. Ranging in size from a pinpoint to a quarter of an inch in diameter, they most often grow on the torso, arms, shoulders, and legs. They appear smooth and even with the skin, but others appear slightly raised.
If they are scratched, rubbed, or cut open, bleeding can occur, and you may need to get cherry angioma laser removal. Unless they bleed often or change in size, shape, or colour, this type of skin growth is usually not a cause for concern. Talk to a dermatologist if you notice any changes in appearance as this could be a symptom of skin cancer.
Cherry Angioma Causes
The exact cause of cherry angiomas remains unknown. However, there may be certain genetic factors that make people more likely to get them.
Cherry angiomas and age also seem to be linked. As mentioned above, they usually appear when people reach their 30s, but they seem to increase in size and number with age. A study shows that over 75% of people over 75 years old have them.
How are cherry angiomas treated?
These red moles are noncancerous or benign skin growths made up of blood vessels. Red moles usually do not need to be treated. If they are in an area that is easily bumped, you might need to have them removed as they may bleed often.
1. Electrocauterization
This involves burning the mole using an electric current from a tiny probe. For this surgical method of treatment, a grounding pad is placed somewhere on the body. This is to ground the rest of the body from a surge of electricity delivered by the probe.
2. Cryosurgery
This is a relatively quick method that uses liquid nitrogen to freeze the mole. Liquid nitrogen is extremely cold that it will destroy the angioma in no time. The liquid nitrogen is sprayed for only about 10 seconds, and the angioma is then destroyed.
3. Laser Surgery
This surgery involves using a Nd:YAG laser to remove the mole. It is a quick surgery that can be done as an outpatient procedure.
